No, they're not airline pilots, but they do want to take you somewhere special: to that magical place where tight harmonies, chunky guitars and a relentless beat can make the world right, if only for three minutes at a time.

Guitarist Andy Sullivan toured internationally with beloved Minneapolis country-punk outfit Steeplejack in the 1990s before moving to Washington.

Drummer John Kelly kept the beat in the 1980s D.C. power trio The Item.

After two critically-acclaimed albums with founding bass player Chuck Dolan, The Airport 77s invited Cal Everett into the cockpit. Fans may remember Cal from 4 Out of 5 Doctors, who released two records on CBS.

If you like Cheap Trick, the Cars, the Knack (and Paul Collins Beat, Bram Tchaikovsky, Rick Springfield...) we think you'll like The Airport 77s.

Paramount Jazz Orchestra

5:00 - 7:30PM • No Cover

Once upon a time, the artistic creativity of musicians and technology came together to create perhaps the most prolific and amazing change in music the world has known—and all while alcohol was illegal! That would be in the 1920’s when radio, sound movies, music recording technology, and music publishing coincided with the northern migration of people for jobs. The blacks, whites, the new immigrants, and the long time citizens all took part in the synergy and that was dawn of jazz. The American Dream visited music.

Meet an orchestra full of curators—The Paramount Jazz Orchestra. This band has been sharing hot pre-swing jazz since the 1980’s. Their arrangements are vintage and often transcriptions of famous recordings. The ten piece orchestra plays the hit songs of the era as done by the likes of early Duke Ellington, Bix Biederbecke, Fletcher Henderson, Ray Noble, Glen Gray, Cab Calloway and Isham Jones. It is the next best thing to a time machine.

A Story Steeped in Rhythm

"Fitzkee Brothers" is a group of two brothers who are amazing singers, songwriters and musicians. Post Malone called them, "The mini f-cking Allman Brothers". Nicknamed the "Thump Brothers" for their tight & funky rhythm section, they have been amazing audiences with their killer live performances ever since December of 2018 when they took the stage at their first full band rock show at Dogfish Head Brewing & Eats in Rehoboth Beach, DE. They never looked back, playing their style of high-energy jam band rock & roll almost constantly before intimate and large audiences in DE, MD, VA, PA, CT, MS, FL, TX, OH, & NY. The group recently finished a tour of the northeast United States with Melody Trucks, daughter of famed Allman Brothers Band drummer, Butch Trucks and cousin to Derek and Duane. The Brothers have had the privilege to play with many great musicians including Post Malone, Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady, Justin Guip, Oteil Burbridge, Robert Randolph, Devon Allman, Duane Betts, Vaylor and Melody Trucks, Luther and Cody Dickinson, Joe Marcinek, Eliot Lewis, Paul Cullen, Robbie LaBlanc, Bruce Katz, Jamie Mclean, Jonathon Sloane, Grace Bowers and Tony Sciuto. Their newest release "Give You All My Love" was recorded at 38 North Studios, and produced by Jim Ebert who described the musical group as "Foo Fighters meets Allman Brothers". Mixed by Jeff Juliano at The Shed. We hope you love it! The Brothers next single, "Lakesong" will drop on March 1, 2024.

Amelia White

5:30pm • NO COVER

If there were an East Nashville Music Hall of Fame, Amelia White would already be in it. The now famous scene was in its formative days when White arrived from Boston in the early 2000s and became a fixture at The Family Wash. She’s been a leading light in America’s most musical zip code. Ever since, even as she developed a reputation in the rest of the U.S. and Europe as a first-rate songwriter, she helped define and refine the core folk-rock sound of Americana with her unique sound and her carefully wrought lyrics. She’s a poet who has been compared to more famous songwriters like Lucinda Williams for years now. She has quickly distinguished herself as a new benchmark.

She’s shared shows with Brandy Clark, Asleep at the Wheel, John Prine, and Justin Townes Earle. White has always gleaned song inspiration through talking with people in the cities she visits. “I find that if I truly open up on stage, people want to tell me about the skeletons in their closets.”, says White.

“Over the last couple of decades, East Nashville fixture Amelia White has built a folk-pop catalog that's as unfussy as it is consistent in quality, and full of insinuating hooks, slyly sleepy singing, and lean, jangly backing. "Rhythm of the Rain," the title cut of the album she released in January, looks at the current political frenzy from a seasoned, bohemian remove.” - Jewly Hight NPR Music, August 2019

The Hard-Core Troubadours

From 1997-2002 there was a roots rockin’ DC area band called the Hard-Core Troubadours. We played a variety of roots rock, country swing, surf, cowpunk, texas blues, alt country, and rockabilly. There were reunions in 2006 and 2012. Recently we reunited to play for a friend’s memorial party. We all realized we missed playing those great songs together and have decided to fire it up again, plus add some new stuff. We recently played a sold out show at Hank Dietle’s Tavern with The Shambles and it went absolutely great! We’re eager to continue doing occasional shows.

Miss Tess

When most people think of defiant music, they think of punk rock or outlaw country. But defying genres while transcending eras and resisting clichés is hard to pin down when it comes to artistry—unless you’re talking about Miss Tess. Swinging for the fences and from the branches of jazz, country, blues and old school rock and roll, she has employed all of her influences and talents on a tour-de-force, while cleverly taking standard perspectives and ideas, like the definition of a love song, to task. After over a decade on the road, now making her home in Nashville — by way of Baltimore, Boston, and Brooklyn — Miss Tess has found a creative community that encourages and embraces wide artistic exploration and expression as much as she does.

The Woggles/Jake Starr & Delicious Fullness

The Woggles/Jake Starr & Delicious Fullness

9:00pm • $20 • Tickets on Eventbrite and at the door

The Woggles - For a band to not only last beyond 30 years together but keep scaling more imposing heights, it’s going to need a sense of purpose. In the case of The Woggles, the seasoned garage rockers passed that milestone with a renewed rallying cry to move ever forward!

The Woggles now feature a two-guitar attack with Graham Day (The Prisoners, Solar Flares, Thee Mighty Caesars) and Shane Pringle (Tiger! Tiger!, Bad Spell) on the 6 strings with Shane occasionally doubling up on saxophone.

The band is touring in support of the new single Mr. Last Chance b/w The Will O’ The Wisp out on Wicked Cool Records (Steven Van Zandt’s label), and is a recent “Coolest Song in the World” both on Van Zandt’s Siriusxm Channel and his syndicated over the air radio program.

The single is from an upcoming album featuring contributions on lead guitar from the likes of Steven Van Zandt (Little Steven), Graham Day, Shane Pringle, Greg Cartwright (Reigning Sound), Peter Greenberg (Barrence Whitfield & The Savages), Rick Miller (Southern Culture on the Skids), Keith Streng (The Fleshtones), and Pat Beers (The Schizophonics).

“The band is not as much an institution as a way of life,” says frontman “The Professor” Mighty Manfred. “The main thing is to keep swimming, cause the shark has got to keep moving.”

The band continues to feature the sock-it-to-them rhythm section of bassist Buzz Hagstrom and drummer Dan Eletxro, both also sometime members of savage English rockers Graham Day & The Gaolers.

Alan Freed once said that ‘Rock and roll is a river of music that has absorbed many streams,’” quotes Manfred. “The Woggles drink from its many tributaries, from early rock and roll and R&B to ’60s garage rock, British Invasion, ’60s soul and forward.”

Fusing pure rock and soul from vintage sources into their own singular sound, The Woggles lay it down hard and loud but with more majesty than recklessness. Their beats and riffs are as strident as Manfred’s swagger and strut onstage. Having played in the past with Johnny Cash, Link Wray, The Zombies and nearly every garage rock group worth its salt, as Meredith Ochs wisely advised on NPR All Songs Considered: “Go see a Woggles show. It will change your life.”

Jake Starr and the Delicious Fullness - After fronting Washington DC garage rockers Adam West for nearly 17 years, soft-spoken, mild-mannered Jake Starr took time off to recharge his batteries. Now he's back to deliver high-octane, garage rock-n-roll with Sean Crowley (guitar, vox), Peter Greenberg (guitar), Louie Newmyer (bass), and Nathaniel Osgood (drums). Think Chocolate Watchband, Easybeats, and Music Machine. Can ya dig it?

They also held their popular dance “immersions”, devoting a whole day to progressive lessons and practices. Additionally they continue to be in demand to teach at music festivals, cruises, and dance camps throughout the US and abroad. Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys

Since forming in 1988 in Southern California, Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys have become one of the world’s most beloved Americana/Roots acts, drawing from the deep musical waters that flow just beneath the surface of Rock & Roll’s fertile soil. A childhood passion for Country, Doo-Wop, and Rhythm & Blues 45s led Sandy (born Robert Williams) to pursue a singing career as a teenager, beginning a life in music that continues decades later. And as his personal record collection continues to grow (75,000 and counting), so does the depth of the musical influences that stream through his songwriting and singing style. A critically acclaimed tribute to Tex-Mex hero Freddy Fender, released at the beginning of the 2020 lockdown, points the way forward for Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys as they continue on a path of musical growth. After nearly 35 years on the road, and more than two dozen releases to their credit, they remain key figures on the ever-changing Americana circuit, both on record and in live appearances.

One of DC’s long-time favorite frontmen, 5-time International Blues Challenge Finalist, and multi-award winning guitarist, Mike grew up in Rockville as a child of passionate working musicians. He spent countless hours spinning 45s and LPs from his parents extensive record collection—Rock, Soul, Country and Jazz and everything in between. Mike began collecting his musical skills like bottle caps, playing drums, piano, saxophone, bass, and guitar while performing simultaneously in jazz band, marching band, concert band, and orchestra. His mother made sure that he had the instruments necessary to continue his musical journey. It was the guitar, however, that stole his heart, and Mike developed his own dynamic and expressive style steeped in the sounds of 60s and 70s guitar royalty.

“Joining Caldwell and Tom in the current line-up are John Penovich (lead guitar and vocals), Todd Baker (fiddle and vocals), and Arch Alcantara (bass and vocals).”

Cravin’ Dogs has since evolved into an all-original, eclectic, roots-rock quintet that has played over 1000 shows and released ten full-length albums, one EP and two compilation retrospectives.

Legends of Blues and Roots Rock

The Nighthawks step forward with: Dan Hovey on guitar, Dan delivers strong lead vocals along with his tasty guitar playing, Paul Pisciotta on bass, Paul brings the band’s already famous four-part harmonies to a new level. Drummer Mark Stutso’s singing and songwriting make him an audience favorite. And founder, lead singer and harpmaster Mark Wenner is still at the helm. With some 30 recordings and local and international awards to their credit, The Nighthawks are still churning out new material while drawing on more than four decades’ worth of signature tunes for their legendary live shows.

Bob Margolin

Boston native Bob Margolin was born in 1949. Inspired by Chuck Berry, he started playing guitar at age 15 and immediately started performing in local rock and blues bands. Margolin was hired by Muddy Waters in 1973.

Muddy’s band toured the world and jammed with many great blues and rock musicians, “but the biggest thrill was playing Muddy’s Blues with him.”  Muddy brought Margolin with him to special shows and recordings, when he sometimes didn’t use his whole band, to give him a familiar sound when working with other musicians. In 1975, they recorded Grammy Award-winning “Muddy Waters Woodstock Album”, Muddy’s last for Chess Records, which featured Paul Butterfield, and Levon Helm and Garth Hudson from The Band. In ‘76, Muddy brought Margolin with him to San Francisco to perform at The Band’s “Last Waltz” concert. Martin Scorsese filmed the concert for the classic film. “As it happened, only one camera was operating during our performance, zooming in or out, and since I was standing right next to Muddy, I was in every shot while he sang a powerful ‘Mannish Boy.'”  Margolin also played on the four albums that Muddy recorded for Blue Sky Records, which were produced by Johnny Winter, and with Johnny on his Nothin’ But The Blues album. Three of those albums won Grammy Awards.

Margolin left Muddy’s band in 1980 and formed his own band. He relocated to Washington, DC then Blacksburg, Virginia — eventually winding up North Carolina in 1989. “All through the ‘80s I ran up and down the highways, mostly in Virginia and North Carolina. I was able to make a living without the pressures of the music business, and didn’t even feel any need to release an album. I was playing most nights with total musical freedom and no commercial considerations.”  Periodically during those years, Margolin played a few high profile gigs — He appeared at the 1984 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, joining The Fabulous Thunderbirds for a tribute to Muddy Waters (with Etta James singing, and Taj Mahal and James Cotton opening.)  His own band opened shows for Stevie Ray Vaughan, George Thorogood, Johnny Winter, and The T-Birds.

By the end of the ‘80s, the blues scene was going through big changes. “I realized that to continue making a living playing Blues, I would have to record and get back out on the worldwide Blues Scene and tour more widely.”  In 1989, he recorded his first solo album “The Old School” for Powerhouse Records, owned by DC-based guitar wizard Tom Principato. Margolin’s second album for Powerhouse, “Chicago Blues”, released in ‘91, featured songs from three different recording sessions. In 1993, Margolin signed with Alligator Records and released his third solo album, Down In The Alley. “This was certainly the biggest ‘break’ I’d had in music since Muddy took me into his band twenty years before”. At the same time, he signed with Piedmont Talent, a Blues booking agency based in Charlotte, NC. The new album and Piedmont’s strong booking took Margolin all over the world and helped to reconnect him with an international Blues audience.  By 1994, Margolin was touring hard and playing at many of the major blues festivals during the summer season. In August and September of that year, The Muddy Waters Tribute Band, featuring musicians who were in Muddy’s band when he was, went on a national tour with B.B. King, Dr. John, and Little Feat. In December of that year, they cut an album featuring the band and special guests from the Rock and Blues worlds. “You Gonna Miss Me, a Tribute to Muddy Waters” on Telarc Records was nominated for a Grammy Award in ‘96. Margolin released his second album for Alligator, “My Blues and My Guitar” in 1995 followed by 1997’s “Up & In”. Margolin appeared on a Kennedy Center Tribute to Muddy Waters in 1997, which featured Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor, John Hiatt, G.E. Smith, Peter Wolf, Nick Gravenites, Keb’ Mo’, Big Bill Morganfield, Robert Lockwood, Jr., Charlie Musselwhite, Barry Goldberg, and Johnnie Johnson. A DVD, “A Tribute to Muddy Waters, King of the Blues”, was released the next year. Also in ’97, Margolin scripted and was featured in an instructional video, “Muddy Waters’ Guitar Style” for Starlicks Video. He released “Hold Me To It” on Blind Pig Records (1999) and “The Bob Margolin All-Star Blues Jam” in 2003 for Telarc. Margolin’s a founding partner in the VizzTone Label Group (formed in 2007) and has previously released 2 albums through the VizzTone Label – 2007’s “In North Carolina” and 2012’s collaboration with Mike Sponza “Blues Around The World”.

In 2016, Bob won two Blues Blast Magazine Awards, one as Best Male Blues Artist, and one for Best Traditional Blues Album for his new album, “My Road.”  In 2013, Bob was nominated for The Blues Foundation’s Blues Music Award for Traditional Male Blues Artist. He has won Blues Music Awards for guitar in 2008 and 2005.

In 2018 Bob released a self-titled album with six new original songs and six cover songs.

In 2019, Bob began a new musical chapter. Inspired by a suggestion from Amy Brat of BratGirlMedia and a 1930s Gibson L-00 guitar he just had refurbished, he recorded an all-acoustic, all-original album. Guests for one song each were Bob Corritore and Jimmy Vivino. In 2020, this was “Best Acoustic Blues Album” for both the Blues Music Awards and Blues Blast Magazine.

Bob Margolin has played on several Grammy-winning recordings, won numerous W.C. Handy/Blues Music Awards for his playing and is a KBA Award recipient for Journalism. [In the early ’90s, Margolin began a second career as a music writer. In 2011, he released an eBook featuring the best of his writing — “Steady Rollin’ – Blues Stories, Snapshots, (Intentional) Blues Fiction.] He’s produced albums for numerous artists including Muddy’s son Big Bill Morganfield, Candye Kane, Pinetop Perkins, Mac Arnold, Ann Rabson and produced and consulted on reissues of Muddy Waters’ recordings for the Blue Sky Label for Sony/Legacy.

Bob’s latest album is So Far, with harp master Bob Corritore is scheduled for release in June 2022. Already well-known in the Blues World, they collaborate on an acoustic duo album for the first time. Special guest guitarist-vocalist Jimmy Vivino graces two songs.

Bob is touring now and will continue.  The 2022 Last Waltz May shows feature Warren Haynes, Don Was, Grace Potter, Jamey Johnson, Larry Campbell and more. Bob also does duo shows with Jimmy Vivino, “Just 2 Guitars & 200 Stories,” intimate and entertaining. He plays festivals with “The Bobs of the Blues” with Bob Corritore and Bob Stroger.
