David Goodfriend • Skip Casale

5:30pm • NO COVER! • Happy Hour 4-8

David Goodfriend • Skip Casale

• David has played in Goin' Goin' Gone for more than 40 years. What you might not know is that he and Russ Beeker had a duo called The Beverly Brothers that played at Kramerbooks for more than a decade. David's solo act includes a few GGG tunes but mostly it's songs that he wrote that the band never played, songs that move inside his soul, songs he sings to his living room walls.

• Skip played a lot of drums and guitar in his life until having an epiphany about music. He had an experience of knowing he could play the blues, and he just had to do it. He says surrendering in music is being drawn to play and being able to say, "I am a musician." Then, you just go with what you play in the moment. He also says, "Music is available to everybody." And it's important to just start, and you can learn to play music like being in a conversation.

Jay Byrd w/ Jerry Del Rosso

Jay Byrd w/ Jerry Del Rosso

5:30pm • Happy Hour • No Cover

Jay Byrd

Jason (Jay) Byrd has been a professional guitarist, singer, and songwriter since his late teens. In his early twenties, he co-founded the blues-rock trio The Groov with Kerry Brooks, and in 1996 joined the then-Grateful Dead cover band Wavy Train. Byrd's original songs and guitar work helped Wavy Train to forge a sound that combined pop-oriented melodies with extended improvisation. After moving to the Washington, DC area in 2001, Jason began crafting songs with a decidedly Americana bent. An award-winning songwriter (NewSong, Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contest, Bernard-Ebb Finalist), Jason continues to write and perform original roots-influenced music. Jay’s new album, At Home Again, is set for release in 2022. His previous band, South Rail, has released three EPs, a self-titled debut in 2012, "Stars" (2014), produced by Don Was, and most recently, “Take The Wheel” (2018).

Throughout the years with Wavy Train, South Rail and as a solo artist, Jay has opened for Little Feat, Chely Wright, Cary Morin, Don Dixon & Marti Jones, Kevin Gordon, Caroline Rose, Yarn, etc. and has shared stages with String Cheese Incident, Tom Constanten, Col. Bruce Hampton, Ratdog and Steve Winwood, among many others.

Jay’s song, Daydream Daze was recently featured on the ABC show 911, and his song “At Home Again” is playing in Ep. 1 during the restaurant scene of the Netfix show "The Waterfront."

Jerry Del Rosso

Plays upright and electric, and frankly, we can't decide which we prefer.  Jerry has been playing in the area for several decades, and in all genres.  Some of them include the Terri & The Back Alley Rhythm Cats, U-Liners, Hollertown, Doug Stevenson & the Spades, and American Touristers.

One way or another, Sarah Borges connects with casual mastery. Whether it’s with the comrades she’s collaborated with over nearly 20 sparkling years of music-making, or the vivid portraits of people’s lives – and occasionally her own – she’s sketched in scores of emotionally resonant songs.  But most of all, Borges has built a loyal following by connecting, through her own charismatic, down-to-earth spirit, with her audience – whether they’re longtime fans from back when she broke through with her terrific “Silver City” debut in 2004, or newcomers just now joining the party.

Big Sandy & The Fly-Rite Boys

Since forming in 1988 in Southern California, Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys have become one of the world’s most beloved Americana/Roots acts, drawing from the deep musical waters that flow just beneath the surface of Rock & Roll’s fertile soil. A childhood passion for Country, Doo-Wop, and Rhythm & Blues 45s led Sandy (born Robert Williams) to pursue a singing career as a teenager, beginning a life in music that continues decades later. And as his personal record collection continues to grow (75,000 and counting), so does the depth of the musical influences that stream through his songwriting and singing style. A critically acclaimed tribute to Tex-Mex hero Freddy Fender, released at the beginning of the 2020 lockdown, points the way forward for Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys as they continue on a path of musical growth. After nearly 35 years on the road, and more than two dozen releases to their credit, they remain key figures on the ever-changing Americana circuit, both on record and in live appearances.

Eric Scott Trio

Eric ScottDan LeonardDeren Blessman

Washington, DC soul/pop artist Eric Scott is one of the Mid-Atlantic region’s top go-to musicians for touring/recording artists and fans alike. A first-call bassist for live gigs and studio work, Eric has countless domestic and international studio and tour credits. In addition he has built a rare following as a songwriter and recording artist, headlining many of the area’s top festivals and concert venues, and sharing the stage with a diverse array of artists including James Brown, B.B. King, Mavis Staples, Aaron Neville, Booker T. Jones, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, and Jon Anderson of YES. Eric’s recent collaborations include working with Roger Waters, Tom Morello, Billy Corgan, Jake Clemons, and G.E. Smith as a vocalist for the Wounded Warriors MusiCorps Band.

Eric Scott is a 18-time Wammie winner (Washington Area Music Association), including the 2020 Wammie Award for ‘Best Pop Album’ for his 5th full-length release, The Charm City Sessions, co-produced with Scott Smith at The Wood and Stone Room - Baltimore. His music has been featured on ABC-TV, CBS-TV, Showtime, Cinemax, The WB, and several major motion pictures and indie films. His voice has been featured in international and regional ad campaigns for HGTV, NAT GEO, Ford, Chevy, Jeep, Chrysler, DC Lottery, and many more.

Currently, Eric is working to support his latest release, Peace Bomb, including the single, “Scene of the Crime” (video produced by Nashville-based Neighborhoods Apart Productions), a songwriting collaboration with DC area hit songrwriter Todd Wright. Calling his new music “Modern Throwback Soul,” Scott’s offerings are always evolving, yet maintain his signature funky, upbeat, soulful, and socially aware perspective. He is unafraid of a pop hook, and his gospel-soul drenched voice is the perfect vehicle to deliver rich emotion. About performing live, Eric says, “I want to get booty’s movin’...and get people thinking about the world we live in. We all need that connection, especially now. If I can help foster connection for people, then I’m a rich man."

About the new release, Peace Bomb

Eric Scott didn’t want to “re-create” the sound of '70s Soul, but has unapologetically applied a fresh coat of paint to it with his new, modern “Throwback Soul” album PEACE BOMB. Recorded with multi-platinum producer Jim Ebert, the album is packed with stellar talent, including three songs mixed by Jeff Juliano (Dan+Shay, Florida Georgia Line, John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Shawn Mendes) percussion by Sue Hadjopoulos (Cyndi Lauper, Joe Jackson, Simple Minds), and Mastered by Dave Collins (Madonna, Sting, Metallica).

The record hits a funky and joyful stride immediately as horns, groovy guitars, sassy background vocals, and Scott’s signature, soul-drenched tenor propel 13 songs of love, self-empowerment, and peace. On the topical Motown influenced title track, Scott warns of “an epidemic gaining ground,” and for the need to “stop pointing fingers and spread more love around. The world needs help right now,” says Scott. “Sometimes art MUST imitate life.”

 Karen Jonas & Bobby Thompson

Karen Jonas & Bobby Thompson

8pm • $15 • Tickets on Eventbrite and at the door if still available

Karen JonasBobby Thompson

Karen - On her latest single “arson games” (Aug 1,2025), singer-songwriter Karen Jonas slips beneath the surface of a romantic encounter that feels less like a date and more like a supernova. With poetic precision and cinematic heat, Jonas crafts a fever dream of cosmic flirtation and chaotic intimacy — set somewhere between a dimly lit restaurant and the edge of the known universe

“You light a match and toss it in a can of gasoline…” she sings, breathless and deliberate, drawing listeners into a world where desire is volatile, words dissolve, and the body becomes both fuel and flame. It’s sultry, strange, and unapologetically smart — a love song that’s also a chemical reaction.

Produced with whiskey-soaked, reverb-drenched minimalism, blending Americana roots with indie noir, “arson games” is unmistakably Jonas: raw, curious, and unflinching. The focus on lyric serves as a fitting bridge to the accompanying book to poetry, Poetic Evidence.

Poetic Evidence (Aug 1) is Jonas’s sophomore literary offering—a hard-hitting, romantic and fiercely funny collection of poetry chronicling modern love in all its beautiful dysfunction. From moonlit obsessions to feminine awakenings, swooning daydreams to hungover heartbreaks, she loves hard and risks harder. Poetic Evidence is for anyone who’s ever cried in the bathtub, chased a feeling, or flirted with fate.

Jonas brings her musical voice to the page in a style that Rolling Stone Germany called “a bit wicked and a bit dangerous.” Her poems are sexy, self-aware, and soaked in whiskey and stardust. Each verse is a confession and a celebration of what it means to feel deeply in a world that often asks us not to.

Karen • Listen - Watch

Bobby - is a mesmerizing guitarist and captivating vocalist who has carved out a place as one of the Mid-Atlantic’s most dynamic blues and rock artists. Cutting his teeth in Washington, D.C.’s legendary blues clubs, he absorbed the lessons of mentors like Bobby Parker and Tom Principato, forging a style that blends fiery guitar work with soulful storytelling. Transitioning from an in-demand supporting player to a solo artist, Thompson has released a steady catalog of acclaimed albums since 2011, establishing himself as a creative force with both songwriting depth and stage presence.

Renowned for his courage and creativity, Thompson uses music as a window into self-expression, prioritizing authenticity over imitation. Whether performing alone with an acoustic guitar or leading a full electric band, his professionalism and emotional honesty captivate audiences. Over time, his artistry has expanded beyond guitar-centric beginnings into a holistic vision of songwriting, lyrical narrative, and communal connection, earning him a devoted following and a reputation for transformative live shows.

Deeply rooted in blues and folk traditions, Thompson draws inspiration from icons like Taj Mahal, John Hammond Jr., Mississippi John Hurt, and innovators such as John Fahey. His songwriting carries echoes of Lightnin’ Hopkins, Townes Van Zandt, and Bob Dylan, weaving together the shared ground between folk and blues. His commitment to preserving and reinterpreting these traditions ensures they remain vital and relevant, even as his own voice continues to push them into new directions.

Peter Case

“I try to take things I love and use them in a new way,” said triple Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Peter Case of his 16th solo album Doctor Moan. Case brings his considerable songwriting ability to an 11-song collection, largely performed on piano, including his first solo recorded instrumental. Released by Sunset Blvd Records, Case’s piano-based songs are emotionally, sonically and stylistically rich.

As a founding member of the early punk era trio The Nerves, in 1977 Case toured the nation sharing bills with the Ramones, Mink DeVille, Pere Ubu, and Devo. The Nerves single “Hanging on the Telephone,” was covered by Blondie. In 1979, Case formed the Plimsouls, a record-breaking live act in California, recording albums for Planet/Elektra and Geffen. Their independent single, “A Million Miles Away,” entered the Billboard charts and remains a garage rock standard, performed by bands around the world. The band performed in the cult classic film Valley Girl and the Nerves and Plimsouls timeless teenage rock ‘n’ roll continues to appeal to fans of each new generation.

After the Plimsouls, Case rediscovered his musical roots on his self-titled solo debut, produced by T Bone Burnett. The New York Times declared Peter Case the best album of 1986. It earned a five-star Rolling Stone review and a Grammy nomination. As one of the first songwriters of his generation to turn from rock music toward an acoustic sound, Case also helped usher in what became known as Americana music.

Peter Holsapple has recorded an extraordinary new solo album he’s calling The Face of 68.

It reflects on age, humor and hurt, with his usual high-quality wordplay and legendary gifts for melody and harmony. For longtime fans and newcomers alike, Peter’s record is an enduring testament to his striking abilities as musician and songwriter (The dB’s, Continental Drifters, Holsapple & Stamey).

“I’d like to think” says Peter, “that, were my parents still alive, they’d say I’d finally realized my potential.”

Don Dixon (R.E.M., Smithereens) produced it in Peter’s hometown of Durham NC, and the rhythm section was Rob Ladd (Connells, Don Henley) on drums and Robert Sledge (Ben Folds Five) on electric bass. Grammy®-nominated engineer Jason Richmond was at the console for the four-day session, with Dixon mixing at his home studio in Canton, Ohio. And there are guest turns from Marti Jones and Mark Simonsen.

Mostly it’s about Peter Holsapple: eleven stunning songs with strong vocals and a newly-rediscovered love of lead guitar; overall, it’s a fine way to see Peter’s way to his future in rock and roll, love and recognizing inevitable loss over time. He’s ready for it all. With songs like “Larger Than Life,” “High High Horse” and the title track “The Face of 68” the new album is a start-to-finish home run.

The Face of 68 is Peter Holsapple, facing forward with electric guitar in hand, and gazing enthusiastically at what’s to come.

THIS SHOW HAS BEEN CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER

The deep, deep blues. The kind of blues you used to hear on a distant radio station broadcasting from somewhere down south, late at night.  The kind of blues where you wake up early in the morning and all you can think of is your lover and you wonder where they've gone.  The kind of blues that makes you want to go somewhere and dance or shout or just be alive.  Those kinds of blues.

Bret Littlehales “Big Boy Little” has been singing and playing blues harp in the Washington, DC area since 1967.  He’s opened for such blues greats as B.B. King, Koko Taylor and Junior Wells.  The Big Boy Little Band was honored to represent the DC Blues Society at the Int’l Blues Challenge in 2010 and placed in the Top 10 Finals out of 110 blues bands from around the world and Matt Kelley won the coveted Albert King Award for top guitarist.  The band also features "Wolf" Crescenze on bass and Joe Wells (drums).

Soul Crackers

SOUL CRACKERS

Take some of the greatest party music ever made, make sure it’s sung & played by a band that has made a career out of belting out those sweet soul sounds - and you've got yourself a REAL good time — meet the SOUL CRACKERS!

Their music encompasses Memphis & Motown soul, and features timeless songs by artists like Otis Redding, Average White Band, Martha & The Vandellas & Stevie Wonder among many others. This is the music that brings all ages and personalities together to a dance party. The SOUL CRACKERS grew up with this music and honor it with the legitimacy of a crackerjack soul horn band from the 60's.

Lead vocalist Tommy Lepson has won numerous "BEST VOCALIST" awards (WAMMIES) from the Washington Area Music Association and is considered a singer's singer. Possessing a stunning and powerful voice, Tommy conveys all the joy and passion that makes this music come alive.  His blue-eyed soulful voice is world class.  He is joined by The Too Much Sisters — two stellar vocalists Anita King and Caz Gardiner, and together they pull off those beautiful Motown harmonies.

On guitar is Paul Bell, who played with Nils Lofgren and The Nighthawks.  The horn section includes Chris Hutton (trumpet) and Wayne Sulc (sax), and completing the band are Spencer Hoopes (keyboards); Chuck Sullivan (drums); and Ronnie Newmyer (bass) who have been a solid rhythm section for decades.  This is a tight soulful 9-piece band that will literally drive you to the dance floor with their signature medleys and inspire you with three-part harmonies and amazing solos.

This band is the real deal.

Formed in 1982, the SOUL CRACKERS were a full time performing powerhouse on the East Coast bar circuit for many years. Headlining shows such as the Adams Morgan Day Festival and clubs like the Bayou and the Wax Museum led to a command performance at the White House in 1994

They have played every type of function possible and specialize in clubs, parties, anniversaries, corporate events, weddings and festivals. Soul Crackers has recorded several CDs, including: LIVE at the Barns of Wolf Trap (2003); Soul Crackers, 30 Years of Soul (2011); Soul Crackers, 30 Years of Soul, Volume 2 (2015); and A Soulful Christmas released in December 2018 — all available on ITunes and CD Baby.

Sings and plays mid-century modern singer-songwriter music. What’s that? Don’t ask him; he made it up.

Charlie writes (and covers) songs about love, loss, hope, bewilderment, wistful longing, busted romance, modern technology, existential dread, and (of course) drinking.

If country music is three chords and the truth, then what Charlie’s after is four chords and the ambiguity. And you can't spell ambiguity without Am.
