Jay Byrd

Jay is a Washington, DC–area guitarist, singer, and songwriter known for roots-influenced Americana with a strong melodic edge. He began his career in the blues-rock trio The Groov, later joined the Grateful Dead cover band Wavy Train in 1996, and went on to help shape a sound that blended pop sensibility with extended improvisation. After relocating to the DC area in 2001, he focused on original Americana songwriting and has earned recognition from NewSong, the Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contest, and the Bernard Ebb Finalist list. His release history includes solo work and three South Rail EPs, with South Rail’s album run including a 2012 self-titled debut, 2014’s Stars produced by Don Was, and 2018’s Take The Wheel.
