Johnny Burgin Blues Revue
Johnny Burgin • Bruce Ewan • Miguel Hernandez • Todd Woodson
Johnny performs over 200 shows a year in Europe, Japan and coast to coast in the US. Johnny grew up in Mississippi and went to University of Chicago at 18, but ended up attending "blues university". Johnny met a DJ on the college radio station who took him to see the Howlin' Wolf style singer Tail Dragger on the West Side of Chicago. Tail Dragger took Johnny under his wing and gave him his first professional gigs, and from there Johnny learned quickly and went on to tour or gig with blues legends such as Pinetop Perkins, Sam Lay and Billy Boy Arnold. He's been praised by the Cascade Blues Association for his "stunning guitar playing-- the pure Chicago styled sound".
Johnny’s played on dozens of records as a sideman and as a leader, he’s released ten CDs on Delmark and Vizztone records. His most recent efforts are Johnny Burgin Live, which features special guests Charlie Musselwhite, Nancy Wright and Rae Gordon and debuted at #3 on the Living Blues Blues Radio Chart. No Border Blues: Japan came from Johnny’s many tours and long relationships in Japan and is the first American compilation of the underground Japanese blues scene. Vintage Guitar stated: “Stellar fretwork, gloriously loose, earthy and immediate Chicago blues”. He was nominated for a BMA for Best Traditional Blues CD of 2017 for Howlin' at Greaseland, a Howlin' Wolf tribute, and by Blast Blast for Best Live Release in 2020.

Harmonica player Bruce Ewan is respected as a blues musician in his native town of Washington, D.C., where he has been active musically since 1975 and has been called “a harmonica wizard” by the Washington Post. Since 1995, Bruce Ewan has been part of the international blues scene as well, touring Europe, Latin America and South Africa to great acclaim. In the United States, Bruce has shared the stage with artists like John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, and Carey Bell among others and performed in venues from New York to Florida. He has also made joint appearances with his older brother, blues guitarist Bobby Radcliff. Bruce Ewan’s virtuosity on the harmonica stands out among his peers and competitors. He plays complex solos that combine flurries of notes, changes of tonality, and a keen sense of timing. Thoroughly schooled in the history and traditions of the blues in general and the blues harp in particular, he is a master of both diatonic and chromatic harmonica. His vocals, too, are faithful to the subtleties and nuances of authentic-sounding blues. Bruce's repertoire is not limited to a rotation of the most common or clichéd blues. Instead, he reaches deep into the blues heritage for an intriguing blend of obscure as well as familiar blues tunes originated by great blues harmonica players. He especially prides himself on his work on the chromatic harmonica, augmenting the “Chicago style” of Little Walter and George “Harmonica” Smith with jazzy inflections.

Corey Arceneaux & the Zydeco Hot Peppers
6:00pm • $20 • tickets on Eventbrite and at the door if available
Corey Arceneaux and the Zydeco Hot Peppers
Corey Arceneaux is a Louisiana born and bred zydeco accordionist and band leader. He learned the accordion at a young age and formed his first band while still in high school. His great-uncles, musicians Rodney Bernard and the legendary Fernest Arceneaux, were his inspirations. As he found his style, Clifton Chenier and Stanley “Buckwheat” Dural, Jr. became his favorites, and Buckwheat also became a mentor and friend.
Corey and the Zydeco Hot Peppers perform internationally and domestically – wowing dignitaries and crowds at special events, festivals, clubs and Mardi Gras balls through the years. They also recorded five studio albums. Simultaneously, Corey has been a radio DJ for about 30 years, which has allowed him to promote Zydeco and the Creole culture of Southwest Louisiana to a larger audience. Currently, he hosts “Hot Sauce Saturday” on KFXZ/Z105.9 FM/www.z1059.com on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Central time.
After moving to Virginia, Corey connected with area musicians with experience in and a passion for Zydeco music. They jammed, and everything came together like a pot of gumbo. The talented Zydeco Hot Peppers are Ben Holmes (drummer), Doug Bell (guitar), Gene Monroe (bass) and Pat Clark (scubboard/frottoir).
Ben Holmes started playing Zydeco in the 1980s. He’s toured and recorded with Al Rapone and the Zydeco Express and the Grammy-winning Queen Ida and the Bon Temps Zydeco band. He’s taken Zydeco on the road from Australia to Africa. Ben plays various genres, but he has a genuine love for Louisiana music styles.Since 1995, Ben has played with DC favorites, such as The Hula Monsters, King Soul, Zydeco Crayz, Savoir Faire Cajun Band, The Canecutters, Canebrake Cajun Band and The Longtimers.
Doug Bell is a veteran musician in the DC area and has performed across the eastern U.S. for nearly 25 years. He has played in bands such as Zydeco Crayz, The Louisiana Sugar Kings, Charlie Sayles and Union Mission Blues, Savoir Faire Cajun Band and Canebreak Cajun Band. His passion is for authentic southern American roots music, especially the dance styles of south Louisiana.
Gene Monroe comes from a musical family and has been a working bassist for the past 30 years. He has performed with artists such as Billy Thompson, King Soul, The Grandsons, Skyla Burrell, Daryl Davis, Shrimp City Slim, Little Bit A’ Blues, Mike Westcott, J.B. Beverley, Deane Kern and Hard Swimming Fish, to name just a few. He has played well-known clubs and festivals both in the DC region and up and down the Atlantic Coast, Memphis, Chicago, San Diego and Japan.
Pat Clark is a professional drummer, guitarist, and private music teacher from Silver Spring, Maryland. As a kid, he went to New Orleans, Louisiana every year for Jazz Fest so Zydeco is in his bones. Pat has been influenced from artists such as Taylor Swift, Dashboard Confessional, Stanton Moore and Los Lobos.

Sarah Borges Band featuring: Eric Ambel
6:00pm • $20 • Tickets on Eventbrite and at the door if still available
One way or another, Sarah Borges connects with casual mastery. Whether it’s with the comrades she’s collaborated with over nearly 20 sparkling years of music-making, or the vivid portraits of people’s lives – and occasionally her own – she’s sketched in scores of emotionally resonant songs. But most of all, Borges has built a loyal following by connecting, through her own charismatic, down-to-earth spirit, with her audience – whether they’re longtime fans from back when she broke through with her terrific “Silver City” debut in 2004, or newcomers just now joining the party.
Fast forward to the early months of 2020, when the life-altering global pandemic hit populations hard. Closer to home, the crisis not only suddenly, jarringly halted performers touring or playing shows large or small, but also quashed the creative chemistry that comes from musicians getting together and jamming in the same room. As an artist whose lifeblood flowed from these real-life exchanges of camaraderie and community, the Boston-based Borges was faced with perhaps the most daunting question of her professional career: How to connect and continue as a vital and viable working artist amid a frightfully uncertain future fraught with unknowns.

Marc Douglas Berardo and Walt Wilkins

Marc Douglas Berardo • Walt Wilkins
“Is best described as the Songwriter's Songwriter” – Americana Review
“In a modern world thick with instigators — people who seem to wake up each day and decide whether they want to get their enemies or allies the most riled up this time around — Walt Wilkins comes off as an unlikely radical. This is a man at peace, and he’s gonna try like hell to get you right there with him.… In a loud and conflict-rich world, maybe there’s nothing more radical than being the guy who’s already soundtracking the calm after the storm.” – Mike Ethan Messick, Texas Music Magazine
“The best in Wilkins is pretty darn good. His songs have been recorded by Green, Cory Morrow, Brandon Rhyder, and Tommy Alverson. He also has had cuts recorded by Kimmie Rhodes (“Espiritu Santo Bay”), Kenny Rogers (“Someone Somewhere Tonight”), Ricky Skaggs (“Seven Hillsides”), and Ty Herndon (“Big Hopes”).… A version of “Trains I Missed” by Balsam Range has been nominated as song of the year by the International Bluegrass Association. Wilkins also recently earned a star on the South Texas Music Walk of Fame in Corpus Christi.” – Americana Highways
A near-constant presence on the Texas Music Chart since its inception as a songwriter, producer, singer, guitar player, and artist. His organic blend of Texas Music, acoustic rock, blues, country, and folk is a delightful trip through Americana music.
Walt Wilkins is “a songwriter, producer, poet, and troubadour. Wilkins wrote for BMG Nashville for five years. Wilkins has produced many creative records by a variety of notable artists including Brandon Rhyder, Pat Green, Jamie Richards, Sam Baker, Bonnie Bishop, and his wife, Tina Mitchell Wilkins Jumping Dog Studio in Austin TX. Walt was also featured on the TV show Troubadour Texas, a docu-drama, following the lives of various singers and songwriters.
Wilkins spent a solid decade in the Nashville Country Music business trenches, writing songs he wanted to be recorded. He has had 100+ songs recorded by other artists. During his heyday, Ty Herndon made Big Hopes the title of his 3rd album for Sony, and there have been roughly a dozen other songs on major-label records. But it was Pat Green's recordings of several songs that made Wilkins' name known in Texas, including Poetry, Eden's Gate, Wrapped, Carry On, We've All Got Our Reasons, among others. Wilkins' work has been likened to the greatest and most timeless of the Texas/American troubadours: Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, and Kevin Welch.
"Berardo takes you to a place within yourself to make changes you want to see in the world." -- Mary Jane Twohy, The Village, Sirius/XM Radio
"Marc Douglas Berardo writes songs that are witty without being superficial, intelligent without being ponderous, fun without being silly. He performs them with an infectious verve. On top of that, he doesn¹t seem to have the slightest idea of just how good he is.” David Olney, Songwriter and Performer, Nashville, TN
"High-quality story-telling, picking, and playing." -- Rob Ellen, The Medicine Show Radio Moose Mobile, U.K.
Marc Douglas Berardo lives on the southwestern coastline of Rhode Island on a river that runs into the ocean. Berardo’s songs mine the deep feelings and lessons gleaned from real-life characters and situations. It's his songs combined with an onstage presence that uses humor and deft storytelling to rally an audience and lead them into a deep and sometimes spiritual experience. It’s an adventure that brings to mind James Taylor, Jimmy Buffett, Guy Clark, or Steely Dan with a touch of Mark Twain or Hunter S. Thompson for good measure. After thirty years of bars, theaters, house concerts, and festivals as well as a boatload of song awards and national recognition, Berardo has established himself as the real deal. A lifer that No Depression Magazine called: “sincere, fluid, charming and above all gripping.”.
He has won a Rammie Award for Best Show of the Year at Ramshead OnStage. Other notable venues include the renowned Bluebird Café in Nashville, The Towne Crier Cafe, Narrows Center for the Arts, The Fairfield Performing Arts Center, Tupelo Music Hall, Cafe Lena, The Freight and Salvage, The Katherine Hepburn Theater, Hard Rock Cafe, Anderson Fair (TX), Fiddler's Dream, and St Anne's Chapel in Vatican City, Italy. He has performed at the 2024 Red Lodge Songwriter Festival and the 2025 Grand Mesa Songwriting Festival. With Abbie Gardner, he headlined at the 2025 Tucson Folk Festival and Berardo opened for or shared a stage with heavyweights such as The Doobie Brothers, The Pousette-Dart Band, Jimmy Lafave, Martin Sexton, 10,000 Maniacs, Walt Wilkins, Red Molly, John Hiatt, The New Riders of the Purple Sage, The Buffalo Springfield, Kevin Welch, Lucy Kaplansky, David Olney, Kim Richey, Will Kimbrough, and Livingston Taylor.
Berardo’s new full-length record, “The Beauty of This Now,” was released on May 31, 2024. It was recorded in Austin, Texas, and produced by Texas legends Ron Flynt and Walt Wilkins. John Apice of Americana Highways wrote: “There’s a seriousness to Marc’s compositions that’s not apparent in the slew of artists who seem to have a lot of nothing to say in an album’s worth of music…Marc is cut from the same cloth as James Taylor, early Elton John…”

The Suitcase Junket

The Suitcase Junket
Matt Lorenz's vision, manifest in The Suitcase Junket, developed in the tension between the grand and the solitary. Grand in its imagery, sound, and staging. Solitary in its thrift and self-reliance. What instruments he requires, Lorenz builds from scratch and salvage. What parts five players would perform, he performs alone. The spectacle of his one-man set bears constant comparison to legends of showmanship, brilliance, madness, and invention.
While audiences are captivated by his solitary form and the show itself, Lorenz, who homesteads in rural Western Massachusetts, is most serious about the songs. He has been building a catalog, writing a world into existence. Solitary on stage and on the road, his mind is crowded with characters, narratives, voices, imagery, sounds as wide and varied as mountain throat singers and roadhouse juke boxes, plus newsreels of the planet's destruction and salvage. With this 2020 release, The End is New, Lorenz’s grand vision for the song overrides the how of it.
"The overall sound lands somewhere between the Avett Brothers and early, dirty Black Keys. There's a Tom Waits-vibe in the fuzzy-megaphone reverb mic, and something ancient, near tribal, in his whistles and moans."
– The Boston Globe

Afton Wolfe

Afton Wolfe
If you’re tired of wimpy mainstream vocals of pimply vocalists who haven’t lived yet — this is the cure. Wolfe sings with authority, experience & realism. He pours it dramatically but never artificially. - Americana Highways
In Afton Wolfe’s latest EP, Twenty-Three, the Nashville-based artist, vocalist, musician, songwriter and collector/inhabiter of powerful songs, finds those rare and unusual spaces between dreams and wide awakenings, sorrow and joy. Although he jokes as being “pathologically insecure and awkward,” the songs on this five-song release are hardly shy or reserved — balanced with emotional elegance and fearless sentiment, and presented with vocal confidence backed by soul singers, Regina McCrary and Melanie Dewey, rich saxophone and trumpet sounds, and melodies that stretch deep into your “Late Night Radio” visions.
Afton Wolfe has worn the hats of many humans from philosopher to lawyer, neuroscientist to bartender, from Washington to Tennessee, but his roots are in those of the rock, blues, and soul music of Mississippi. Armed with an additional deep love for Oscar Wilde, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits and Elvis Costello, Wolfe’s music aptly sits somewhere between these influences and his youngest musical experiences singing onstage with his mother at the State Boulevard Baptist Church in Meridian, MS. With a few starts and stops in recording and touring, between studying and sampling alternate means of making a living, sometimes a defender and sometimes a defendant before judges, Wolfe has remained a consistent songwriter reflecting on all facets of his wandering.
So far in 2023, Wolfe has toured the East Coast, appeared for the second season at the Tropic of Cancer Concert Series in Todos Santos Mexico hosted by the band Cordovas, released Twenty-Three and the video for “ Cry .” And he can always be found as a featured guest at the legendary East Nashville annual Tom Wait’s tribute to raise money for Second Harvest, led and curated by Mary Sack with a collection of OG artists that
have had a significant impact on the birth and growth of the highly revered East Nashville music scene.
The “Cry” music video was directed and produced by Duende Vision, one of East Nashville’s most creative teams in Americana Rock n Roll visuals, and also creators of the emotionally and visually stunning video for “ Late Nite Radio ," starring East Nashville artist favorites Laura Rabell and Tom Mason. Staying true to his love for his artist community, Wolfe enlisted Tommy Womack, author, songwriter and member of the band
Government Cheese, to play the main character in “Cry” - a story of mourning that unfolds into profound joy when Wolfe’s young niece appears in a tutu with a whoopee cushion.
Other highlights in Wolfe’s catalog of releases include his 2021 album release King for Sale, said by Blues Matters , “Musically, it staggers between rough country blues and Steely Dan getting in a brawl with a proper jazz band.” In 2022, Wolfe also teamed up with Mississippi artist, Cary Hudson, for a single and video release of the popular “ Ooh La La ” by Faces.

Ali McGuirk
7:30 Doors • 8:00pm Show • $12 Advance sale on Eventbrite • $15 at the door if still available
Ali McGuirk
Ali McGuirk has never been a church mouse. In fact, these days, she’s standing at the pulpit. “I feel like I'm writing lyrics that are preaching,” McGuirk said with a laugh, realizing in real time how much her voice as an artist has evolved while writing and arranging her latest album, Watertop. “I’m actually delivering a message, not necessarily processing my feelings, but delivering my thoughts on the matter. That felt like a different role to embody as a songwriter.”
"2022’s 50 Best Albums of the Year"— “Ms. Ali gets it. And she can play that damn guitar, too. There’s a history scattered through soul music, and blues, that speaks to this aesthetic. Boston and New England last saw this combination with a gal named Sue [Tedeschi] a couple of decades ago.”
–– Boston Globe
“‘All Back’ feels like it could exist somewhere outside of space and time– it could be on a record in the background of a party in a 1970s bungalow, or it could be on your Discover Weekly playlist on Spotify. Either way, it’s a great listen.” – Consequence of Sound

9:00pm • $10 • Tickets on Eventbrite and at the door if still available
Arty Hill and The Long Gone Daddys
From Baltimore, Md to Central Texas, Arty Hill packs the bars and dance floors with his unique brand of modern Honky Tonk. He sings with an "'everyman' quality…reminiscent of Johnny Cash." (Vintage Guitar Magazine). His songs - marrying the soul of classic country with the wry storytelling of Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt - have been recorded by the Grammy-nominated Kenny and Amanda Smith Band, Alt-Country pioneer Jason Ringenberg, Rockabilly Queen Bee Marti Brom, and Austin’s Texas Sapphires, among others. His recordings have topped the FAR (Freeform American Roots) chart, and his songs have appeared in two seasons of "Gun it with Bennie Spies" on the Sportsman Channel and in the 2017 movie "I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore" starring Elijah Wood.
Arty is also co-founder of the Hank Williams Songwriting Workshop in Montgomery, AL, and an instructor at the Augusta Heritage Center's Classic Country Week in Elkins, WVa. His 2021 release, "A Thousand Smoky Nights," features Arty and his top notch band, the Long Gone Daddys. It includes 11 new original tunes, plus a re-imagined version of the Arty and Linda Hill penned '"Mascara Tears," featuring vocalist Michelle Hannan. Telecaster master and legendary Lost Planet Airman Bill Kirchen says: "From the brash R n R of 'A Twang coming On' to the open heart surgery of 'Are You Sleeping,' there's a wealth of real deal Honky tonk in here."

JM Stevens
5:00pm • Suggested $10 - $20 donation
JM Stevens
While it’s rare for a musician to drop two studio albums within a year, JM Stevens says there was no grand scheme to release Wish on a River Bridge, his third solo effort, a mere 11 months after its predecessor.
The seasoned singer-songwriter, with no one to answer to, simply felt free and eager to “make the best music I can, where I am in this moment in time, and get it out in the world.”
“The longer you sit on songs, there’s the chance they might marinate a little too long, and it’s so easy to talk yourself out of things,” the Austin, Texas-based Stevens says.
“Excellent second album from Texas songwriter. Simplicity is difficult to master in songwriting. Being able to say something in a conversational manner is a gift few artists do well. Tom Petty was perhaps the greatest at this. John Mellencamp also comes to mind. Add Austin native JM Stevens to that list. His sophomore album, Nowhere to Land, is full of gentle, yet infectious songs that are immediately relatable.” - Icon Fetch
“The majority of these songs sound as if they’ve been lingering in the ethos forever, uncannily familiar yet edgy enough to catch immediate attention and resonate well beyond.” - Goldmine
