About the Artist:
Alice Kresse is a graphic designer, printmaker. and jewelry designer. As a printmaker, she works primarily in the mononprint technique. Monoprinting, as the name suggests, creates an edition of one unique print. It is also known as the most painterly of printing techniques. Ink is rolled, brushed, drawn, scraped and otherwise applied to a blank plate. This plate is then rolled through an etching press with a sheet of 100% rag paper. There is usually enough ink left on the plate for another print to be made, sometimes even a third. These subsequent prints are known as 'ghosts.' From then on more ink can be added to the printing plate, and the original print and its ghosts can receive additional layers of imagery. The result is a suite or 'family' of prints, each one unique, but sharing color, composition and subject matter.
