FLACK & Karl Straub Combo

9:00pm • $10 Cover

• Jake Flack has been a fixture of the DC music scene for over twenty years as a founding member, singer, songwriter and guitarist of both, The Rhodes Tavern Troubadours and King Soul.  In his new project, FLACK, he teams up with the A list rhythm section of Tommy Barrick (drums) and Johnny Combs (bass) to shine a light on his original songs that are largely based on growing up and living in Washington, DC.

Karl Straub Combo

Karl Straub’s songs have been covered by Kelly Willis, Eugene Chadbourne, Last Train Home, Eric Brace and Peter Cooper, the Grandsons, Little Pink, the Kennedys, and Kevin Johnson.

The Karl Straub Combo plays original songs in a bunch of styles; rock and roll, country, jazz, etc. The combo sound is sort of a mixture of NRBQ, Merle Haggard, Elvis Costello, and the Ramones.

Karl plays Fender guitars, mostly. He and pedal steel player Dave Van Allen trade licks that blend Bakersfield chicken picking with psychedelia, and blues and jazz with space age bachelor pad hi-fi sounds.
