Host: Shannon Leigh Reynolds
Come join DCBU for the our songwriter's rounds series at Hank Dietle's Tavern.
This month features:
• Shannon Bielski is a singer-songwriter and bandleader from the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area. A graduate of East Tennessee State’s Bluegrass, Country, and Old Time Music program, she formed Shannon Bielski and Moonlight Drive in 2018. Her heartfelt vocals—likened to Alison Krauss—and songwriting draw inspiration from artists like Stevie Nicks, Kacey Musgraves, and Joni Mitchell. Her music is available on all streaming platforms.
• Jason Roe Born and raised in the hills and hollers of Prince George’s County, Maryland—the capital of hardcore bluegrass—Jason Roe is an accomplished union organizer and a versatile multi-instrumentalist. Known for his heartfelt songwriting, Dr. Roe blends raw emotion with a touch of wit, crafting what he calls "country music for the clinically depressed." His work has been featured on WPFW, NPR, The Washington Post, and Bluegrass Today. A seasoned performer, he spent the last decade with the now-defunct bluegrass band Moose Jaw and currently brings his unique sound to the stage with the Duckpins.
• Julia Kasdorf is a singer-songwriter based in Waterford, VA. Julia found out about bluegrass from her dad when she was a kid. After trying everything out there - pop, jazz, punk - she has rediscovered her dad's music on his own Martin guitar. If you listen to her songs, you'll hear that she never really left. Julia won the 2017 Wammie for Best Emerging Artist and Best Local Musician of Loudoun County in 2021. Her album, Motel, crystallizes all that she has learned to love about playing music - driving rhythms, great grooves, and visceral lyrics. Motel, which also features Jon “Mary Chapin Carpenter” Carroll and Mike Ault, demo man for PRS guitars, is a swell stomp through roots music from Bristol TN to Motor City
