Guitar player, singer and composer Norman Blake (b. 1938) is easily recognized as one of the greatest influences on today's acoustic Americana, bluegrass, old-time country guitar playing. He is mostly celebrated for his virtuoso flatpicking, but his fingerpicking guitar is equally masterful. Norman has collaborated with Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Tony Rice, John Hartford and many others over his long career. But performing and recording his original songs and instrumentals plus his interpretation of traditional material is what has established him as one of the all-time guitar greats.
Armin Hadamer (The Poor Ellen Smith Band) has been a lifelong student of Norman Blake's guitar playing and music, also meeting and studying with Norman a few times in the past. Together with guitarist and mandolin player Tom McLaughlin (Big Howdy) he will demonstrate and breakdown some basic techniques of Norman's guitar playing. This workshop will be interesting and useful for all level of guitarists. Afterwards Armin and Tom will follow up with a concert performing a selection of Norman Blake's songs and tunes.
