Swing 5

Swing 5 will transport you back to France in the 1930s. Begin with the heartbeat of a slap bass and the pulse of two rhythm guitars. Add to it melodic runs sweetly played on the accordion and a soaring fiddle. What you get is the Swing 5 band playing jazz and swing music from a time when a night out meant live music that provokes the uncontrollable urge to dance! Lead by talented local guitarist James Key and influenced by the legendary Django Reinhardt, this is a show you won't want to miss!

Intro to Balboa

Do you like listening to Swing 5 but find it challenging to dance to their energetic tempos? If so, come learn beginner Balboa with Tony Treston and Katherine Anderson! Experienced dance teachers Katherine and Tony, who regularly teach at Glen Echo, will be offering a free basic lesson in Balboa — a footwork-focused dance style which is tailor made for fast-tempo tunes and crowded dance floors — at 7:15 pm before Swing 5 takes the stage. Come for the 30-minute lesson, then stay to put your new moves into practice on the Hank Dietle’s dance floor!
